Landmark Chambers is to host a seminar about the Leveson Inquiries – entitled Phone hacking Inquiries and how to protect a free press – on 8 September 2011.
The seminar is designed for the media and those solicitors who may be instructed by them in relation to the hacking Inquiry. The first part of the Inquiry is about media ethics and is intended to review the current approach of the media towards difficult ethical questions such as blagging and hacking, and to make recommendations about regulating that behaviour. That is likely to focus on whether there should be a body with greater powers than the PCC and, if so, who controls it. The second part of the Inquiry will investigate individual wrongdoing in the media and the police.
The seminar will be addressed by leading experts in the field of public inquiries who will discuss how to ensure that the media and the individuals being investigated are treated fairly.
