Description of the events which caused the public concern:

The sinking of the MV Derbyshire in Typhoon Orchid, south of Japan, on or around 9 September 1980. All 42 crew members and 2 wives on board died. MV Derbyshire was the largest UK ship ever to have been lost at sea.
