Nigel Fleeman trained for 5 years with a medium sized accountancy practice and subsequently gained a wealth of experience in industry. For thirteen years he managed the finances and administration of a multi million pound turnover printing company which employed in excess of 50 people. He also served as Company Secretary.
Nigel has also worked in the public sector, looking after the budget of the Government’s Efficiency Programme at HM Treasury. The Efficiency Programme was the biggest change programme in Government and delivered annual efficiency gains well in excess of the Gershon targets of £21 billion. Here he honed his project and risk management skills and participated in a Gateway Review interview of the then Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Des Browne. Whilst with the Efficiency Team, Nigel was nominated for the Whitehall and Westminster World ‘Sir Gus O’Donnell Award for Outstanding Performance’. These were the only Civil Service awards programme that promoted innovation and improvement across the entire breadth of Central Government. He didn’t win.
He is currently serving as Senior Finance Officer with the Robert Hamill Inquiry where he also takes the lead on risk management and various other secretariat functions including managing health and safety in the workplace.
